I am amazed at how many people don’t understand that the sound of their voice is directly connected to their success in life.

“The voice is the megaphone of the soul”, said ancient sages. Voice Power Studios’ translation, “The Voice is the megaphone of your Personal Power."

"It took me quite a long time to develop a voice and now that I have it I am not going to be silent.” Madelaine Albright, US Secretary of State.

When speaking professionally or personally, there are three voice skills that you need to project your Personal Power and communicate effectively.

In an article on Forbes.com, "Warren was asked "What habits did you cultivate in your 20s and 30s that you see as the foundation of success?"

Buffett responded "You've got to be able to communicate in life and it's enormously important. If you can't communicate and talk to other people and get across your ideas, you're giving up your potential."

During their free voice analysis consultation, many of my executive clients have echoed Warren’s words. Yesterday Rob head of marketing for a popular tech company said, “I need to be a better speaker and convey my thoughts more effectively in order to take my career to the next level. How can you help me.”

Rob is not alone. There are many executives, CEO’s, managers, technology professionals, business owners, entrepreneurs, marketers, and salespeople struggling to convey their message clearly and succinctly in order to convince their customers, clients or patients of the virtues of their product or service.

A charismatic voice is a powerful communication asset! Are you using yours to its fullest?

Researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles confirmed what Sandra McKnight has been saying for 25 years. “You can train your voice to sound charismatic” and engage your customers, clients and patients more easily, powerfully and successfully.

It is very rewarding to hear VPS clients say over and over again how training to consistently speak with confidence, clarity and charisma has meaningfully changed both their professional and personal lives.

Scientists are tuning in on the power of the spoken word, seeking the secrets of charisma. By analyzing the harmonics of pitch, frequency and timbre, researchers at University of California, Los Angeles are discovering how charismatic public speakers use their voices to dominate, rouse and influence a large audience. They are finding that successful politicians in various countries, including Italy, France and Brazil, all share key vocal qualities that strongly affect how people respond to them, independent of the meaning of the words they say or the ideas they express.

How much confidence, energy, and enthusiasm does your voice radiate when you speak about your ideas, services or products? Your vocal sound is what people react to first and then they listen to what you’re saying. Experts say that in a telephone conversation, 80% of your persuasiveness comes from your speaking voice and 20% from what you say. Most people don’t realize that the sound of their voice is an important and determining factor as to whether someone buys.

Unleash the magic in your voice. John, a young 30 year old scientist, was holding his voice back on purpose and sounding flat and monotone, because as he said, that is how all the other scientists speak. However, he continued, now that I am advancing in my career and doing a lot of presentations at science conferences I realize that this way of speaking is not helping me reach my goal of being an excellent communicator.

John, you are not alone, I have clients, from both the engineering and the IT fields who speak the same fast talking, monotonous way. However, what sets you apart is that you have a rich baritone voice when you use your breath to support it and when you stop trailing off at the end of your thoughts.

If you want to sell with your voice you need to use it purposefully to engage the listener. A low pitched rich resonant baritone voice makes both men and women feel comfortable and reaches them on a gut level. The accomplished actor, James Earl Jones, who plaid Darth Vader in the movie Star Wars, is a perfect example of this phenomenon.
